Gastrointestinal Health

A properly functioning digestive system is critical to good health. Did you know over 70% of our immune system is found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract? Gut dysfunction is linked with many common symptoms and illnesses, including heartburn, abdominal bloating and pain, chronic constipation or diarrhea, IBS, and weight gain.

A dysfunctional gut may manifest without GI symptoms, as an autoimmune disease, joint pain, skin condition, cognitive decline, depression, heart disease, etc. As a Functional Medicine practitioner, Dr. Sandra will perform comprehensive testing to look for common issues such as increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut), yeast overgrowth, dysbiosis (an imbalanced microbiome), pathogens, food allergies/sensitivities, and inflammation that may be negatively affecting the environment of your GI tract.

Balancing Your Gut

In the last few years gastrointestinal microbiome research has expanded.  We are learning that the environment we create for the bacteria in our body will dictate what type of bacteria thrive. Healthy lifestyle choices are important. Quality sleep, regular body movement and exercise, stress-reduction practices, and a therapeutic, toxin-free diet can help maintain a healthy digestive tract.
