What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine practitioners treat the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.

The Functional Medicine approach uses an integrative, science-based, wide-lens view to consider the complex web of interactions in the patient's history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. Every patient's unique genetic makeup is considered, along with both internal (mind, body and spirit) and external (environment) factors.

Functional Medicine is the new era of medicine.

A Functional Medicine practitioner will look for the root cause of chronic illness that leads to physiological damage and malfunctioning body systems including:

  • Decreased ability to detoxify

  • Disruption of hormones and neurotransmitters

  • Immune system dysregulation

  • Abnormal inflammatory responses

  • Poor digestion and absorption of nutrients

  • GI tract infections and dysbiosis

  • Diminished ability to repair tissues

  • Accelerated cellular aging

  • Reduced energy production

Virtually every complex, chronic disease is preceded by long-term disturbances in functionality. When you partner with

Dr. Sandra, you will be given the tools to become the navigator of your own journey, improving your health and changing the outcome of the disease.

"The knowledge of anything, since all things have causes, is not acquired or complete unless it is known by causes. Therefore, in medicine, we ought to know the causes of sickness and health."

Avicenna (973-1037)
