Dr. Sandra Fleming is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with residency training in both internal and family medicine - this includes working in a Level 1 Trauma Center in Brooklyn, New York, and in an underserved hospital and clinic in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Sandra is an Institute of Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner.

After completing her undergrad in Biology at the University of Alaska, Dr. Sandra ventured to the beautiful island of St. Maarten to begin her medical training. There, she completed her basic science studies at the American University of the Caribbean, taught by faculty from Duke University, John Hopkins, and other top institutions from around the world. She enjoyed her rigorous clinical training in various hospitals in New York and after graduating in 2010 joined an internal medicine residency in Brooklyn, NY (Now NYU Langone Health) and then a family medicine residency in Portsmouth, VA (Eastern Virginia Medical School).

After 12 years in clinical practice, she realized more and more patients were developing chronic diseases every year and the conventional 'Band-Aid approach' intrinsic to allopathic/Western medicine was not helping them. Health care in the U.S. is currently focused on quantity over quality. Doctors and other providers are routinely pressured to see upwards of 25-30 patients per day.  This approach to health care runs counter to  Dr. Sandra's values so she has chosen to expand into Functional Medicine. She has completed all coursework through the Institute for Functional Medicine and is board certified. She is a BaleDoneen Method and ReCODE Certified Practitioner, helping to prevent and reverse Heart Disease and Alzheimer's disease.

Dr. Sandra regularly collaborates with a group of doctors to discuss complex medical cases, including patients with long-term COVID-19 symptoms, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, Alzheimer's disease, mold toxicity, and Lyme disease. We know that a team approach is often critical for today's patients with complex chronic disease.

Dr. Sandra feels fortunate to be a part of a beautiful community in Fort Bragg, California. She has a love for nature and animals. You may find her hiking or biking with her husband on the numerous scenic trails, kayaking on Big River, or enjoying time with her 3 dogs.
